Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed, general acute care community hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for the 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut. Position Summary / Purpose
Incumbents of this position are professional Registered Nurses that utilize the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, documentation, and evaluation) to provide direct and indirect patient care based on area(s) assigned, addressing the age appropriate needs of all patients. Follows nursing department philosophies, policies and procedures to develop unique education and care plans for each patient and provide appropriate education and support for family members. Utilizes judgment, knowledge, and understanding of patient and family needs when directing ancillary staff. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction (patient, family, physician, others), maintaining patient confidentiality and being sensitive to the age specific patient needs for comfort, privacy and generalized care.
Essential Functions
Handles multiple priorities, independent discretion/decision making, manages stress appropriately, works alone effectively, works in close proximity to others and/or in a distracting environment, works with others effectively. Demonstrate skills in reading, writing, be able to communicate effectively. Must have strong organizational skills and ability to problem solve. Must have ability to work collaboratively with physician, nursing team and patient.
Demonstrates ability to use computer technology, electronic medical records specific to the units.

Essential Functions
- Assesses and identifies patient and family needs to ensure high‑quality care.
- Develops and communicates individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team and patient/family.
- Implements medical care plans, nursing interventions, and required procedures with appropriate skill and judgment.
- Continuously evaluates patient responses and adjusts the plan of care to meet changing needs.
- Maintains accurate, up‑to‑date documentation to support coordinated, quality care.
- Keeps required certifications and licensure current and pursues ongoing professional development.
- Serves as a role model for both new and current staff.
- Follows hospital safety standards, including Exposure Control Plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Demonstrates respect, professionalism, and courtesy toward patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.
- Promotes effective teamwork within and across departments to support organizational goals.
- Upholds CHH core values—dignity, compassion, service excellence, community, integrity—and contributes to a culture of caring.
- Participates in quality and performance improvement initiatives and offers ideas to enhance patient care.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Active Connecticut RN license.
- Associates degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Required: ACLS, BLS
- 2 years Cardiac or Critical Care experience preferred.
